Have you ever been walking on a familiar path, road, or track and suddenly, out of the corner of your eye, realised that there is something really spectacular to be seen? That’s how I feel about my landscape paintings. That moment when a shaft of sunlight strikes in an unexpected place, or the shape of something suddenly becomes important. You know you expect sunsets to be amazing, but in reality, many of them are quite boring and unnoticeable. Then, late one evening, there it is - the reason that people stand and wait whilst the sun goes down and all the other evenings become worthwhile. These are the moments, the experiences that I try to depict in paint. I want to convey my excitement from that time and share it with everyone.
